Travel Tips For India

It’s my first time in India. Any tips?

I’ll be traveling by myself to India and Nepal for 3 weeks starting at the beginning of March and this is going to be my first time traveling outside of Europe. I’m pretty much on a shoestring budget, and I need to minimize costs as much as possible. I was wondering if anyone has some advice for me concerning health (like if I should bring a portable water boiler) or any other useful tips about just traveling there (I’ll pretty much be in the major cities of northern India and Kathmandu/ Pokhara). And also, how are mosquitoes in late February/ early March?

Bottled water is not expensive and costs around Rs 12/ltr. You can carry the call-taxi numbers with you. They are present in major cities. You can try the local transport (auto/rickshaw), but know first how much you need to pay. In most of the cities, the rickshaw charges Rs 10/KM. So its not much expensive. But fix the amount you should pay ahead in case the driver refuse to charge by meter. People are around to ask for any directions and distance related queries :) .. so ask at least couple of people just in case. People here are ready to help and do care for foreigners. So you should not feel alien. Do carry local currency and also carry change. Avoid the roadside food. Before eating at local eating joint, check for hygiene (Your body may not be immune for that :) ). Do carry hand sanitizers and paper napkins with you. things are not expensive here (food, water, transport, clothes, shoes, entrance fees) and people are generally very helpful. So nothing much should be a problem for you in enjoying out here. Cheers!!
